Get To Know Hipster Mom

Tuesday, 11 April 2006 : Filed under: MOM

As mentioned in the past, Hipster D and I have been together for many years. He has been the love of my life through the Melrose Place years, the Ally Mc Beal Years, the “fuck T.V., let’s party” years, and now is still by my side in the midst of my Desperate Housewives years. What a Peach!

Back in the midst of the Melrose Place years, he had a favorite commercial that let him know round about when in the week I would be having my “run too much and then eat raw brownie mix in front of the tube” night. It was the “Get to know Billy” ad that Fox played as a teaser for Melrose Place. It was the most horrible ad in the history of all ads, and I am sure in retrospect, even Andrew Shue knows it. None the less, it’s the little getting to know someone phase that is so very important in life. The random bits about a person that really solidify a relationship, even with Andrew Shue. With this in mind, I present to you…

Get to Know Hipster Mom! (Lucky you!)

Back in the day when I actually had time to watch a complete movie, my favorite directors were Woody Allen, and John Waters.

I love fruit, but yet my mind refuses to recognize it as an actual dessert.

After my second pregnancy I gained what felt like a million pounds. I have lost all the weight, but still suffer from what I think of as “post-fatty syndrome”. I am constantly rearranging nonexistent rolls of pudge.

When I was 25 Prince pulled me out of the audience at a concert to dance with him on stage. He smelled really good and I still carry his guitar pick in my wallet with my driver’s license.

I never thought of myself as a “kid person” until I had my own. Now I can’t get enough.

Hipster D and I have matching tattoos. Although I don’t always tell him, he still rocks!

I have had dreams centering around tornados since I was about 12 years old. I still do.

I’ve had drinks with Billy Corgan from The Smashing Pumpkins. I’d always heard he was an asshole, but he was actually very nice. He gave me and my roommate tickets and passes to Lollapalooza and even came over to the house afterward for a friend’s birthday party.

I gave birth to At-man without so much as a Tylenol, and although I had an epidural for Em, he was born 10 minutes later so it never had time to take effect. It hurt like hell but was pretty awesome none the less.

Anyway, I hope this extra random info was at least somewhat amusing. Enough about me; please feel free to drop off a random fact about yourself.

  1. I love the TV years timeline metaphor. Trés clever!

Hubz and I don’t have matching tattoos but we got tattooed together on our honeymoon. We got each other’s names.

And I was never a kid person either but I seem to be one now :)

  2. I agree with Iz - love the TV metaphor, and I disagree, I liked those Billy promos! I loved Billy, though. And all of this information was quite enlightening! I have stories that involve Prince and Billy Corgan, as well.

  3. Too funny. I totally forgot all about that commercial. I too was a huge Melrose junky.
Your site is too cute. I love to read about your daily grind with the kids and such.

An interesting fact about me? I am a total MTV junky. Real World, Laguna Beach, etc. The problem is… I am 30 years old for crying out loud. I need to get over it already…

I doubt this is interesting, but it is a fact.

I finally have become inspired by all of you blogging moms. If you have time, please check out www.xanga.com/bellabug and feel free to leave comments with feedback as to how i can blog better and parent better.

  4. I’m glad to know I am keeping company with so many former Melrose junkies. Thanks for all the nice comments, tattoos, prince, Billy, it’s funny all the little things you find that you have in common with your fellow bloggers. And I do know what you mean Andrea, every now and then I like to catch a Real World marathon. I have a hard time finding the time to watch every week but they make it so easy to get hooked when they play the entire season in one weekend.

  7. So funny you should post this today. i spent the day at the mall shopping for clothes for my new body. i have lost all of the baby weight plus some, but nothing is the same. i finally went to the womens section and said a tearful goodbye to juniors. i must say, the jeans fit OH SO MUCH BETTER over there. i couldnt believe that after 5 hours of trying on jeans, i finally found the perfect pair at JCPenney. Brand is TINT. These are awesome. They look cool with all of the fading in the right places, but arent extremely low waisted. Nice to know there are some jeans out there that arent cut down to the crack yet dont sport an elastic waistband like the ones in the old bitty stores (i.e. lands end)

i am still searching for shirts that arent cut to the nipple and arent so tight that i look like a busted can of biscuits. if you find any well fitting shirts, be sure to post where in the hell they are….

  8. I came across your website during one of my many Googlefests and I wanted to let you know how much I enjoy your posts - I was starting to wonder if there were any other moms out there that have had similar life experiences to mine (even down to the tornado dreams and Billy Corgan references - freaky). Even if I can’t find a former combat-boot wearing mamma in Cary (ugh), I can look to my computer and know that you guys are still out there (trying to erase crayon from the walls)!
