Congrats on your new man! I had to laugh when I read this. We just got the D50 not too long ago and I talked about mine like a person, too. lol

I'm pretty much an amateur but the slow-ass point and shoot was driving me insane. As you know, little ones don't smile when you tell them to so ya gotta be FAST!

Did you get the way cool $300 flash for it? We didn't but maybe later this year...

Anyway, nice meeting you, HM. Enjoy your camera :-)

Hey Izzy, Thanks for checking out the site. I did end up getting the SB-600 speed light. I like the soft look of the bounced flash. Plus, both the boys have baby blues and we end up with way too much red-eye using just the pop-up.

Oh man! is THAT how everyone gets their photos to have that beautiful golden glow? I've been puzzling over that and wondering if it was the killer flash.Seriously, is that one of the benefits of the SB-600 speed light? I hate how cold and bright my photos always look, no matter how great the camera is.

Any shoe-mount flash with a tilt head would work for the soft effect. It resembles Kodak "Portra" film which is what most wedding pros use to get their soft skin tones. Basically the idea is to get the flash as far from the shutter (or in the case of digital, "shutter") as possible.
